Suzanis have traditionally been made in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries. This hand-embroidered vintage suzani
has the character that comes from everyday use. The story of each suzani is as rich as their colors and as intricate as the designs that cover their surfaces.
They are often used as a wall hanging or to cover belongings are the traditional decoration in the home.
This 12 foot wide by 1 1/2 foot long embroidered Suzani panel might have been made as a tent decoration for a nomadic home or have been hung around the walls of a permanent home. There are a series of loops along the top for hanging. This is an authentically old piece and has some fading and discoloration from age. Interestingly, there are thin, hand drawn lines in some places that were never embroidered. The colors are fantastic and still rich. Some panels like this are divided and made into throw pillows, or used as edging for draperies.
