The 2009 United States Mint District of Columbia & U.S Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set contains 6 coins bearing the “S” mint mark of the United States Mint facility at San Francisco.
The 2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program was a one-year initiative to honor the District of Columbia and the five U.S. Territories.
This program immediately followed the 50 State Quarters Program, which ended in 2008 and preceded the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, which began in 2010.
This set contains proof quality versions of six quarter-dollar coins in honor of the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories: The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Proof coins are manufactured at the United States Mint at San Francisco.
Unlike circulating coins, proof coins are extraordinarily brilliant, with sharp relief and are struck several times using specially prepared, highly polished dies and feature frosted cameo images on mirror–like backgrounds.
To protect their pristine finish, proof coins are sealed in a protective lens.
The set includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
