This sign was located in a railroad office, the printed lettering states: “St. Paul Fire and Marine insurance company, baggage and personal effects insurance for sale here. Complete coverage at low rates
This sign is painted gold with black lettering. There is a small chain and piece of metal on the back to hang and mount the sign. Many years ago I was fortunate enough to purchase a large collection of antique and vintage New England railroad signs. This was part of a large railroad collection amassed over many years. Each of the signs in this collection are antique or vintage period signs used. These signs were markers placed by the railroad as you entered a certain village or community. In most cases there were only a couple of these signs made to identify the village coming and going, so they are rather rare. This is a phenomenal collection with some truly great signs. Brief research on the internet I found a few other porcelain railroad signs which had been offered at a single auction in Massachusetts. Most of the signs in that collection were realized from around 0 to 00 each. Most of these signs were for Maine Central Railroad or BNM Railroad, Boston and Maine Railroad, etc.
