Antique Yemeni Jewish Bowsani Filigree Pendant & Cherry Ottoman Bead NecklaceSize:
22 inches long
For your pleasure is a newly created handmade necklace. Based on its name, this necklace was made using an original rare Yemenite Jewish Bowsani filigree silver pendant. The pendant is from the early 1900's and has a stamp on the backside by the maker. Pieces like these are exceptionally rare, as they were made by near-primitive tools with yet magnificent detailing. The Bowsani were an indigenous Yemenite family of Jewish silversmiths in the early 1900s Sana'a.
The strands of the necklace are completely adorned with hand-shaped Ottoman-style cherry red worry beads. These beads were essentially made to replicate bakelite, but with a Turkish touch. Essentially, the cherry red beads were made to replicate the more precious amber stones, coveted by many cultures around the world. Each Ottoman bead is embellished by sterling silver daisy spacer beads.
Incorporated into the necklace are four antique Yemenite silver beads, which unite the imposing red cherry beads with the splendid Bowsani pendant. Two pairs of antique Czech red glass beads rest at both ends of the necklace, a pair on both sides of the pendant and a pair at the clasp. A pair of antique Yemenite silver granule beads are found at both sides of the Bowsani pendant as well.
The clasp of the necklace was handmade by twisting sterling silver wire into a hook that joins the necklace together with two sterling ring loops.
