This is an excellent plate of echinoderms from the closed quarry in Gilmore City, Iowa. The slab has TWO rare Arcaeocidaris aliquantula echinoids preserved. The inflated urchins are beautifully displayed with long spines intact, which is quite unusual. The distinct fossils have great natural color and contrast and are wonderfully showcased on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very rare multiple echinoid from this classic Midwestern echinoderm locality.
