Description
Name: Calymene claviculaAge: Upper Silurian
Formation: Henryhouse Formation
Location: Pontotoc County, Oklahoma
Size: Trilobite is 1.5 inches long
This is a cool, complete Calymene clavicula from the Silurian of Oklahoma. This distinct specimen was found by Steve Hess in 1998. The trilobite is extremely inflated and 3-D and exhibits fine detail - under magnification, the extremely small granules can be seen on the bulbous glabella of the trilobite. Both free cheeks are intact and tightly attached, which is unusual. The beautiful, cream-colored bug contrasts strikingly with the lighter-colored matrix. The classic fossil is well showcased on the large block of Henryhouse limestone. This is a very nice, inflated specimen of Calymene from the Silurian of Oklahoma.
