et of 2 Vintage Persian Minakari Dishes have been intricately hand painted over copper in a delicate pattern of camelia blossoms and foliage. The painting on the first plate shows the flowers soon after opening, where their petals are upright and close to the center of the flower with all the vibrance of youth. The second plate has been painted to show the camelias at the peak of their bloom and beauty. Both plates are surrounded with identical borders of pink blossom and yellow leaf detail on a green ground. Both have 2 butterflies hovering near the flowers, and both plates are painted with the same color green on their reverse sides. The dishes / plates are approximately 9 3/4” in diameter.
Minakari or Meenakari is the process of painting and coloring the surfaces of metals through enameling. It is practiced as an art form and usually involves intricate designs (mainly using geometric shapes and designs) and is applied as a decorative feature to serving dishes, containers, vases, frames, display ornaments and jewelry. We estimate them to date from the early 1980’s.
The Minakari Dishes are in very good pre-owned condition. There are a few very small marks commensurate with their age. Because each of the minakari pieces are hand painted, the dishes are slightly different in coloration. Each is therefore unique.
