Striking and visually arresting in numerous ways, this lovely vintage 14k yellow gold ring combines a very lively opal cabochon center stone with highly changeable red, yellow and green pinfire play-of-color against medium blue body tones, and a conforming ring of ten cool, greenish-blue indicolite tourmalines in an elegant halo cluster. The opal's fine dot patterns of color are dense, evenly scattered and ephemeral, the predominately red fire flashing large areas of electric greens and yellows with amazing speed and fluidity as it moves through even subdued light. Bright, lustrous and beautifully polished, the opal is surrounded by a ring of good-sized indicolite tourmalines with pastel greenish-blue color that enhances the vividness of the opal colors, gentles the otherwise energetic palette and refines the overall presentation. The 13.35 x 7.70-mm opal, an estimated 1.46 carats, shows play of color through to the back, and the 3.7-mm tourmalines, an estimated combined 1.4 carats, are well matched, nicely saturated with color and clean for the species. In excellent condition, the ring is marked and tests positive for 14k gold, measures 7/8 x 11/16-inches at the face, a size 5.75 (sizable) and weighs 5.8 grams.
