Description
This is a fossil trilobite-Cornuproetus cornutus
, from Morocco. It dates from the Middle Devonian, 390 million years ago. It is a relatively small trilobite, not growing much bigger than 1-2 inches at most.
This trilobite measures 1.7 inches long (if flattened- its pygidium is tucked under, but still visible) and 1.0 inches wide (genal spine to genal spine). The grayish/brown matrix and trilobite, measures 3.0 inches by 2.65 inches by 1.2 inches.Well-preserved Holochroal eye lenses are present in both eyes.
There is a repair through thel eft cheek and runs down the left side of the thorax. In the trilobite- collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks- and the specimen often gets broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
All of my specimens are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.
