Description
This is an extremely well-preserved fossil trilobite-Crotalocephalus gibbus
, from Morocco.
Crotalocephalus
lived during the Early Devonian (395-345 mya) on a prehistoric ocean floor, which is now part of the Atlas mountains of Morocco.
Crotalocephalus
has small holochroal eyes and a prominent glabella. The fossil measures 2.45 inches long and 1.0 inches wide. Matrix and bug measure 4.33 inches long, 2.75 inches wide and 1.55 inches high.
There is a repair running through the right cheek and going diagonally across the thorax. In the trilobite -collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks- and the specimens often get broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
