Vintage United Nations UN Inlaid Middle Eastern Souvenir Box - UNTSO Damascus

This is a very unusual historic-type box from the Middle East. It is meticulously inlaid with a typical Middle Eastern geometric design. The lid reads "
United Nations – UN – UNTSO – Damascus
." The UNTSO stands for United Nations Truce Supervision Organization. It was formed in 1948 and from the look of this box, it probably was made not too long after the UNTSO was started. I'd guess this box is in the early 1950s. It must have been a gift probably for dignitaries or politicians.
The box measures 11-3/8" x 6.75" x 2.25". The interior is lined with red felt and has an inlaid design on the underside of the lid. The box overall looks to be in nice condition but does show a little bit of wear or aging to the wood. There are only a few spots that are missing a couple of very small pieces of the design but nothing very noticeable. A neat piece of history.
