: This is an exquisite example of the traditional Persian handicrafts of an intricate miniature painting
,
known as
Minakari
, on a wooden box embellished with marquetry, known as
Khatamkari
.
The box is crafted of wood and is decorated in the traditional technique of marquetry, or
Khatamkari
,
in which strips of brass, various woods and camel bone are fused together and sliced into small pieces
that are precisely positioned to form intricate geometric patterns.
The box slides open for storage of pens or special treasures.
Care
: This fine craftwork is protected with a clear resin coat, which can be gently wiped off
with a damp cloth.  The use of abrasives or harsh chemicals is not recommended.
Condition
:  This is in mint condition and would make a lovely gift.
